The surrounding Rock Hill Orchard also produces a robust range of fruits , berries , and vegetables throughout the season such as blackberries , peaches , nectarines , apples , pumpkins , as well as honey from their own bee hives , all sold at the farm market store . A pick-yourown flower field , and a corn maze in the fall are popular attractions . Despite all this well-diversified farm activity , the creamery — and especially its ice cream — is the cornerstone of the business .
Is there anyone who doesn ’ t love ice cream ? In the creamery ’ s early years Mary took a cheese making course , but after trying her hand at making cheese and yogurt , she found that ice cream was the sweet spot that would keep
customers coming back again and again . Sold in pints or scooped at the farm store ’ s ice cream bar , the creamery offers a variety of favorite flavors , from the basics such as vanilla , dark chocolate , chocolate chip and strawberry , to the more unusual ginger and orange dreamsicle . Seasonal flavors make use of the Orchard ’ s bounty , for example apple cinnamon , peach , and pumpkin . The ice cream ’ s growing popularity , and the loyal repeat customers , indicate that the Fendricks ’ attention to quality has paid off .
The creamery is named for the nearby home where John and Mary raised their family and began acquiring farm animals . Woodbourne House , a brick and frame colonial house , whose history is well documented , was built by Quakers in 1817 , expanding upon
a tenant farmhouse built there in the late 1700s . It ’ s easy to imagine those subsistence farmers , raising their livestock and producing their own fruits and vegetables , would be well pleased to see the Fendrick family ’ s 21st century take on diversified farming . Woodbourne Creamery takes us back to the natural way of producing healthy food , but with the newest of technological innovation to help the process along and ensure its long-term viability .
