Over one million seabirds will die each year by ingesting or being entangled in plastic16
As of today, plastic is nearly inescapable, and can be found in almost every device. From toys, to water bottles, to tooth brushes, plastic surrounds all of our daily lives. Unfortunately, a lot of our waste ends up in the ocean and other bodies of water. According to TakePart, there are approximately 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile of ocean16. This number is extremely alarming, and signifies that a change needs to occur.
Waste management is not enough- litter can be caused by a variety of reasons. However, significantly cutting on plastic production, as well as improving recycling abilities, would help this problem which is critically endangering our ecosystems and oceans.
