solutions:

According to the Natural Resource Defense Council, around 80% of marine litter originates from the land, and most of that litter is plastic18. Humans and their actions are the main ones to blame for all of the trash that is polluting and hurting the ocean. This being said, we are also the main ones who can reduce the amount of litter in the seas. Removing trash directly from oceans is only one part of the problem though; since there is already so much trash in our oceans, the most effective solution to this problem is to prevent trash from ever reaching water, especially plastic.

The Natural Resource Defense Council's Top Three Strategies for Reducing Plastic Trash18

1. Holding Plastic Producers Responsible.

This means that plastic producers should design new and better ways to package their products, either by using less plastic or by making the packaging recycable or reuseable.

2. Leading International Action

We need to establish guidelines for limiting plastic production and we need to inform and educate people from around the world about the solutions

3. Reduce Plastic Trash

We need to pass legislation about limiting plastic production.
