Grade 11- 12
IB Diploma Programme
What is the IBDP?
In grades 11 & 12 students follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme( IBDP). This is a demanding and rigorous programme that prepares students very thoroughly for further study at university. It is recognised by universities throughout the world. Students can choose between the full IB Diploma or the IB Course, with careful consideration of future education and career paths. The International Baccalaureate Diploma
Programme curriculum is modelled by a circle with six academic areas surrounding the three core requirements. Over the course of the two-year full Diploma programme, students shall: study six subjects chosen from the subject groups- three subjects should be at Higher Level and three subjects should be at Standard Level, complete an extended essay, follow a theory of knowledge course( TOK), and participate in creativity, action, service( CAS).
The four key components of the IBDP:
Extended Essay: Students conduct independent research on a topic related to one of their subjects, writing a 4,000-word essay with guidance from a supervisor. This project develops skills in research and writing expected at university.
Theory of Knowledge( TOK): This critical thinking course explores the nature of knowledge and encourages students to reflect on how we know what we know. It is assessed through essays and presentations.
Creativity, Activity, Service( CAS): Students engage in creative, physical, and community service activities alongside their studies. CAS promotes personal growth through experiential learning.
Group 4 Project: A collaborative scientific investigation, involving students from various science subjects. It focuses on teamwork, reflection, and evaluation, though it is not officially part of the IB Core.
