10 Things You Can Do to

Stand Up to GMF'S

1. Grow your own food. Start with something simple like an apple tree. Remember not to use and pesticides.

2. Learn where your food comes from. Read the entire label before you eat that canned soup.

3. Buy what is in season.

Most likely if the fruit you eat isnt in season it was genetically modified so it could be sold in the off season.

4. Eat Organic. Try cutting out all the unnatural foods you eat day to day such as potatoe chips and instead replace it with an organic fruit or vegtable. This sends a message to food producers that consumers prefer the healthier more natural option in comparison to genetically modified foods.

5. Buy produce from your local farmer's market. Instead of relying on your local grocery store for fruits and vegtables try buying them from a farmer's market. Local vendors offer fresher and more organic options.

Proposition 37: California Ballot Initiative

Propostition 37 was a ballot initiative voted on by the entire state of California. The vote was to decide whether or not the state of California would require labeling on all products that were genetically modified.

Ulitmately, the opponents to labeling won in a narrow vote of 51% against labeling and 49% for labeling. Ironically, those opposed to labeling outspent their opponents in campaigning by almost $40 million.

Proposition 37 was a major eye opener for many other states who have since held similar ballot initiatives. Recently the state of Maine voted to require labeling on genetically modified foods, however, the law cannot go into effect until a majority of other states comes to the same conclusion. This is why it is so important to become involved because genetically modified foods is an issue that our generation is going to be dealing with.
