What are observation calibrations?

Observation Calibrations

At PLA we believe consistent and fair feedback helps teachers continue to grow and develop their craft as an educator. An observation calibration is a process that can be used by school leadership teams to observe instruction and student learning in order to make informed decisions about educator feedback, professional learning, and school-wide instructional practices.

As outlined on the previous page, we have 6 mandatory domains that leaders are required to work through over the course of the year and provide teachers with feedback. Domains 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are required. The previous pages provide guidance on the pacing of these required domains over the course of the year. Below and on the next page you will find the steps for leadership teams to calibrate during observations to ensure common look-fors and feedback are consistent.

Identify your ILT (Instructional leadership Team). These should be instructional leaders in your building. Schedule an observation cycle with your ILT and provide each member a copy of domain 1 rubric.
