Pope John Paul II offers an Accelerated / Honors Program and Academic Program in most subject areas . The student ’ s academic performance is carefully analyzed to determine the appropriate program for the individual . When considering placement for incoming freshmen , the student ’ s application , seventh grade final marks , eighth grade first trimester marks , seventh grade standardized testing , and parental input are all factors that are considered .
In addition to the two standard programs , a unique course of study is offered at the Advanced Placement level in some disciplines . At the colleges ’ discretion , college credits may be earned based on the student ’ s score on the AP exam . PJP is proud to far surpass both the State of PA and Global results on the Advanced Placement Scores Report . Twenty-nine PJP students in the last two years were recognized as AP Scholars - five with Honor , three with Distinction .
The Diocesan Scholars Program and the Pope John Paul II Scholars Program are unique programs for a select number of superior students . The students in these programs may earn college credits during their senior year . Please see the PJP Course Selection Booklet for additional information about these competitive programs .
“ What stands out the most to me about PJP is the teachers . No matter what they teach , they come to school every day ready to pass on their knowledge to all of their students . The skills I ’ ve gained from the teachers here at PJP have allowed me to succeed on standardized tests such as the PSATs and SATs . The teachers have also allowed me to explore things outside of the classroom by taking time out of their busy schedules to moderate clubs and activities such as Mathletes , Quiz Bowl , Band , PJP ’ s literary and arts magazine ( Palladium ), and plenty more . Out of all of the members of the PJP family , the teachers more than anyone have helped me to move onward and upward to bigger and better things and to become a bigger and better person .”

“ As a Neumann Scholar , I had the choice to attend any Archdiocesan high school tuition-free , and I ’ m glad that I chose PJP ! The excellent education provided by PJP enabled me to score a 1580 on the SAT , along with a 5 , the highest possible score , on five AP exams , and an 800 , the highest possible score , on two SAT Subject Tests . Additionally , I have qualified to advance in the National Merit Scholarship competition . PJP has also provided me with opportunities to pursue my interests outside the classroom as the editor-inchief of the school newspaper and as an anchor on PJPTV , the morning news program . I know that PJP has prepared me well to continue on to college .”
