THE JUICY, INSIDE STORY By Mary Beth Noel, Assistant to the Head of School When I first saw the ad for my position in the Herald-Leader, I realized this was my mother’s former job at St. Stephens-St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Virginia. I thought to myself, “I know what this job is; I know how happy she was in her 25 years there; I can do it!” After I emailed my resume to Chuck, I thought it might be a good idea to check him out on The Lexington School’s website. It was then I realized his Alexandria connection through Episcopal High School, a school I knew well. About that time my phone rang. It was Chuck. We sputtered our way through with a few “did you see,” and, “I can’t believe you know so and so,” and “what a small world.” Once we settled down and had our 1½-hour talk, I knew this was the right place for me and Chuck was the perfect match. Twelve years later, it is still the same. I have no doubt Chuck will always be the first one I call with life-changing events, asking those hard questions, and for overall advice. While he may be my boss for only a few more months, he will forever be part of my family. Going out for a hamburger will never be the same ... and that, my friends, is our inside story! 19
