Glencoe By Jon Holder A few notes: Piedmont’s chart topping status as the top team in both the last 5 years and 10 years comes on the strength of a 7 year run from 2007-13 that saw the Bulldogs post double digit win totals in all of those seasons…Piedmont won 79 games during that seven year span…In the last 25 years, Alexandria has only had two losing seasons (’02, ’13)…Alexandria had 11 double digit win seasons in those 25 years…Cedar Bluff in that span of years had 13 seasons with 9 or more wins…In the 2000-2009 decade, Clay County did not have a losing season and an incredible 7 years with 12 wins or more…The 1990s saw four area schools win 100 or more games in that decade, averaging 10 plus wins per season. Those four schools were Clay County, Alexandria, Etowah, and Lineville…Oxford’s domination of the 1980s came mainly as a result of not having a losing record in any year of the decade…In the 1970s, West End, Glencoe and Ohatchee were virtually even…West End had one more win than Ohatchee, but also had two more losses. The Indians, however, had three ties to only 1 for the West End…Glencoe had four less victories than West End and three less than Ohatchee, but the Yellow Jackets also had 5 less losses than the Patriots and three less than the Indians and only one tie. 2015 Pigskin Roundup the Magazine | 35
