n off season meeting at TV 24 concerning high school
football drifted into the area of best programs in the area.
Who has won the most games in the ‘70s? The 80s? The
90s? The 2000s? What team has had the most wins over
the last 5 years? 10 years? 25 years? There was lots of talk
and speculation about all of these questions. Some of the
answers, such as all-time records going back to the 1920s,
can be found on different websites. Some sites even offer
this kind of information on a statewide basis. We wanted to
break the records down to specific time frames and recent
decades. We also desired to pull out just the schools in the
East Alabama/TV 24 viewing area.
We did have some parameters that we worked with in
compiling this information. The geographic region included
only those schools in Calhoun, Etowah, Cherokee, Cleburne,
Clay, and north Talladega counties-basically the core TV 24
viewing area. AHSAA schools were the only ones included,
so just the years that a school was a member of the AHSAA
SOME 1970 AND 1980’S RECORDS FROM
THE ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SOCIETY.
HERE ARE THE RESULTS.

were considered. Schools also had to field a team in every
year of the decade we surveyed for the 5, 10, or 25 year
time periods to be counted in those categories. We also only
counted on the field wins and losses. Forfeits, vacated wins
or losses, and wins and losses because of sanctions were
not considered. If a school won or lost the game on the field,
regardless of reasons and later sanctions, we used the on
the field result. We based our rankings on total wins, not
percentages. No consideration was given to classification,
meaning no extra weight was given to a 6A over a 1A. All
games, including playoff games, were counted. Even as
schools grow, shrink, and change classes over the years, all
wins and losses are counted the same whether the school
was 1A at one time and 4A a decade later. Coaching changes,
available talent pool, level of competition, or other subjective
areas were also not included. This is solely about the schools
and not individual coaches, players, or opponents. Basically,
this is simply straight, raw data based on actual games
played through the years.
