I hung up the phone in our dorm room after dinner one Monday night and started to cry.
" What’ s wrong?" my roommate Mary Ann asked.
I started pacing around the little room, trying to get my thoughts together. " My mom is in the hospital. I need to get there but my dad is already with her and can’ t come get me. Where’ s the number for that university taxi service?" I started frantically going through my desk looking for the phone book.
Sally, my other roommate came out of the bedroom. She was bleary eyed from studying. " What’ s all the commotion?" she said.
Mary Ann came over and took my hand. " Kelly, come over here and sit down. Tell us what happened.
