Faith

A sense of peace came over us both then.“ I understand, Mom,” I said.“ I think I feel the same way.‘ Live each day and look forward to heaven.’ Isn’ t that what you always used to say after church every Sunday?
“ That’ s right,” she said. She wiped my tears with the new tissue the waitress brought, just like she used to do when I was little.“ Your faith is so strong, Diane. I knew you would find your way back to it. Eventually.”
I held her hand next to my cheek just a little longer.“ I’ m going to try Mom. I can’ t promise to always be strong, or not to worry, but I’ m going to do my best. Whatever you want, we’ ll make it happen together.”
“ Good,” she said.“ Let’ s start by getting something delicious for dessert.”

The last three months went by too quickly and now the cancer is

winning. But what glorious months they were. My brother Vince and his family came to visit almost every other weekend. Mom has been able to spoil her five grandkids to her hearts content. We’ ve had big family dinners every Sunday just like she wanted.
Our whole family even rented a cabin for a week in August. Eleven people in one cabin was a little cramped but we loved every minute of it. There was fishing and
