made me feel safe again. Then they had to give me up. Until recently I never knew how hard that was for them.
My Grandad and Grammy took in a complete stranger, even though I was family. They hadn’ t even known I existed. They were very hurt by my mom and dad, but still took a chance on me. When they brought me to love with them they were taking a big leap of faith that everything would work out.
They had already raised their child, and how had to do it all over again with me. Times are a lot different now than they were when my mom was growing up. I know they struggled to keep up with me, help me with my schoolwork, and to make sure I turned out alright.
Well, I have turned out alright … so far.
Grandad, Grammy, Mr. Bob Newman, and Mrs. Martha Newman, if not for you I don’ t think I would be

My family stood up to huge applause. When it quieted down I continued.
