If Not ForYou
There were some things that made me cry too. There was a picture of mom and me sitting on the front porch of our house. I was reading to her and she looked so happy. Her head was tilted up toward the sky, her eyes were closed, and the wind was blowing in her hair. I remember thinking back then, if I could make her look that happy when I read to her, I’ d do it all the time. Grandad had the picture framed for me, and it sits on my nightstand to this day.
The time has gone so quickly since that summer. We’ ve had our share of ups and downs just like every family. I always knew they loved me though. Even
when I wrecked the car a couple years ago, they were mad, but mostly they loved me. They loved me so much in fact; they wouldn’ t let me out of their site for about a month.( Probably because I was grounded.)
This June, I graduated High School at the top of my class. At my graduation I had the honor of giving a speech to my fellow classmates and their guests. I chose to honor my grandparents and the Newmans for the love, nurturing and compassion they gave me and taught me. I closed my speech with these words:
