Photograph a Presidential Home – Speaker Lineup
Kenneth Garrett, National Geographic Photographer. In a career
spanning over 40 years, Ken Garrett has photographed more than
60 feature stories for National Geographic and National Geographic
Traveler magazines, and has been involved with multiple National
Geographic books, expeditions and museum exhibits. Ken knew
from an early age that he wanted to be a photographer, and he
was offered his first National Geographic assignment in 1976. Ken
has shot for Time, Fortune, Forbes, Smithsonian, and many other
publications and commercial clients. Ken will lead participants
through multiple photography excursions at Montpelier and provide
tips and theory on the process of photography.
Kat Imhoff, President and CEO, The Montpelier Foundation. Kat Imhoff
has served as Montpelier’s President and CEO since 2013. She is the former
Chief Operating Officer of Monticello and Executive Director of The Nature
Conservancy in Montana.
Elizabeth Chew, Ph.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Curator. An art
historian, she has taught art history and material culture and published and
lectured widely on ways that art and architectural patronage relate to gender,
race, and family politics.
Matthew Reeves, , Ph.D., Director of Archaeology and Landscape
Restoration since 2000, will present an overview of Montpelier’s archaeology
projects, highlighting important finds which broaden our knowledge of the
Madisons’ heritage and Montpelier’s enslaved community.
Jenn Glass, Director of Architecture & Historic Preservation, Preservation,
will lead participants on a tour of the Madison-era architecture that details
Montpelier’s 20-year history of architectural restoration and reconstruction of
these spaces.
Christian Cotz, Director of Education and Visitor Engagement. Christian’s
career at Montpelier began in 2000 running student programs and developing
learning opportunities. Christian was project director for the award-winning
exhibition, The Mere Distinction of Colour and will provide a personal tour of the
creation of this exhibit.
Allyson Whalley, Curator of Horticulture, has been integral to restoring the
planted landscape at the main house. Her recent work in the Madison formal
garden will be highlighted in her landscape tour of the property.
