Award-winning film Ang Larawan sets maiden screening in BC
The United Filipino Canadian Associations of British Columbia ( UFCABC ) is proud to announce the premier matinee screening in Vancouver of the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Picture winner Ang Larawan on Saturday , May 19 , 2018 at the UBC Robson Square Theatre at 1:00pm .
This is co-presented with Abonita Investment and Management Services ( AIMS ) and made possible by Pavison Worldwide . Ang Larawan is a musical restaging and film adaptation of Nick Joaquin ’ s A Portrait of the Artist as a Filipino .
Directed by Loy Arecenas , the film ’ s setting was in the Philippines before the Pacific War , depicting pre-war elegance and understated sophistication via montage of black and white footage of old Manila . The scene ’ s graceful movements evoke feelings of nostalgia for a time when things of beauty are truly and unsubtly beautiful . Main stars are Rachel
Alejandro as Paula ; Joanna Ampil as Candida and Paulo Avelino as Tony Javier .
The movie ’ s insatiable pleasures are enough to overshadow it indulgences . Despite of changing its source , Ang Larawan the movie is adamant in maintaining its consistent approach to retaining the themes from the original stage play , while keeping the form and spectacle intact . The move also shows how the Filipinos celebrate before the war .
This is a one-time screening only . Be sure not to miss it . English subtitles are also available for non- Tagalog viewrs . Tickets are by donations only to cover film acquisition cost and venue screening rental . Please refer to poster for ticket reservations .
