Revenge (PG) ****
Stir Crazy!
Victims come in all shapes and sizes. People don’t like to be a used. All
bets are off when a simple holiday turns into quite the ordeal in the eventful
Revenge. Like the title suggests this sharp-written film from Mongrel Media
takes no prisoners. Be prepared to be blown away with this wicked thriller
now lighting things up at the Rio Theatre and can be seen on your home
computers or televisions via iTunes and On Demand.
Boys will be boys. How many times have we heard this excuse when
certain liberties are taken. Throw a member of the opposite sex into the mix
and sometimes things can get out of hand. No two ways about it - when a
woman or man for that matter says no that should be the end of it. All too
often the a user can’t accept no. And around and round we go.
It seems the French have a certain joie de vivre. That lasses-faire
attitude and a large bank account plus some charisma must be the drawing
card when a hot young thing decides to accompany an older wealthy man
on a vacation retreat. Secluded and far away from prying eyes is the pad of
Richard that welcomes youthful Jen with open arms. Despite the obvious
age range.●
Bad Samaritan (PG ) ***
Rough Ride!
Opportunists come in all shapes and sizes. Sedate Portland plays host
to a couple of losers and a maniac in the loose in the edgy Bad Samaritan.

the Fifth Avenue Cinemas, The International Village cinemas and considerate

Photographer by day car jock by night Sean Falco comes across as a
easy-going Irish lad trying to eke out a living. Never mind this boy has a dark
side well developed by Robert Sheenan. Boys will be boys and a get rich by
any means scheme hatched by Sean and best buddy Eddy Sandoval in the
surface looks solid. Con man Carlito Oliverto is an able enough partner in
crime to Sean until they come across new mark Cale Erendreich . Little do
the petty criminals know that David Tennant masks a few Vader habits.
When a simple crime gets turned topsy turvy sedate Portland and its
environs play host to a macabre tale of confinement, revenge and horror.
Smart and full of surprises director Dean Devlin delivers a knockout punch
with a snappy tense thriller.●
All hands on deck. Only in the case of a struggling mom it looks a storm
is on the way. Parents and others seeking fine drama will have their wished
fulfilled with a trip to Universal’s Tully. Smart and timely this realistic drama
features some solid performances fit to behold, at select Cineplex theatres
around B.C.
Again Charlize Theron lets her guard (i.e. Natural good looks ) down
to turn in a triumphant performance as Marlo. Stretched to the limit with
two small children and a bag in the way she is at wit’s end. Married to a
workaholic husband played rather aloofly by MarK Duplass consider this not
too happy homemaker to be on the verge of a train wreck. Trust her wealthy
brother to try to remedy an already difficult situation.
To take a load off Molly agrees to bring in a night nanny. Ho would
have thought that a seemingly hot to trot 26 year old knockout would have
time to care for a new born, let alone i prove the overall lot of a family in the
skids. Hats off to Mackenzie Davis who manages to light up the screen with
a sparkling performance that perfectly balances the vibes thrown off by Mz.
Theron.
Given a great pitch perfect script by Diablo Cody whose ear for dialogue
and ability to convert heartfelt realistic circumstances that confront ordinary
people on a daily basis is second to none. And with director Jason Reitman
directing this powerhouse little gem of a movie Tully shines bright,●
