‘ Oro ’ to continue screening without dog slaughter scene
Moviegoers have few more days to watch the eight entries of this year ’ s Metro Manila Film Festival .
The MMFF officials were able to persuade local cinemas to extend the screening of eight official entries until Saturday , January 7 .
This year ’ s festival , which started on December 25 , would supposedly end on January 3 .
Even cinemas in provinces have affirmed the extension of the screening of the eight entries .
The film Oro that became controversial for a dog-killing scene in the movie would still be included in the extended screening , but Oro filmmakers have to submit an edited version where the dog-killing scene will be shaded , following the complaint of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society , citing that an existing law on animal welfare was violated .
“ Pursuant to the agreement reached by lawyers representing both PAWS and Oro , a new DCP ( digital cinema package ) in keeping with animal welfare will be submitted for showing plus affidavit of support for human and animal rights and welfare alike ,” the MMFF said .
The new version will be subject to another screening by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board .
The MMFF reiterated that it does not condone any cruelty to animals .
The film ’ s Fernando Poe Jr . Memorial Award has been recalled amid the furor over the controversial scene . ●
