2021-24 Strategic Plan
A three-year strategic plan for Manchester Pharmacy Programs , launched July 2021 , outlines five strategic priorities : people , education , patient-centered care , service , and research and scholarship . Each priority specifies intended impacts , goals , outcomes and indicators of success .
Key stakeholders , including the Dean ’ s Advisory Council and Experiential Education Advisory Council , were consulted throughout the process . Student input was included through contributions of APPE students in each working session . Execution of the 2021-24 Pharmacy Programs Strategic Plan is led by the Dean and Leadership Team in collaboration with their respective units . Its assessment , measured by indicators of success , is led by the Office of Assessment .
Developed with flexibility and longevity in mind , the plan serves as a living document in an ever-changing environment , said Tommy Smith , dean of pharmacy and graduate life sciences .
“ Integrated throughout our Pharm . D . Program structures and processes , this bold , forward-looking plan provides clear direction while allowing us to pivot when necessary ,” said Smith . “ Importantly , it will help us achieve our goals for a program that will thrive for years to come .”
Accreditation & Programming Updates
With its strategic directive in place , Manchester Pharmacy is completing next steps to advance the 2016-2022 accreditation of its Pharm . D . Program . The Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education ( ACPE ) is responsible for ensuring all pharmacy programs meet established qualifications and education standards through an ongoing evaluation process . Since summer 2020 , faculty and staff have been preparing an accreditation self-study report for submittal February 2022 in advance of ACPE ’ s on-site evaluation April 2022 . ACPE reviews accredited programs every eight years . Upon successful completion next year , Manchester would not undergo another review until 2030 .
Building on success , Manchester Pharmacy is planning to extend its program nationally – joining only a handful of pharmacy colleges offering a distance pathway for their Pharm . D . programs . The curriculum , adapted for online delivery , will require on-campus participation for certain program and lab skills training . Pending ACPE Board approval next June , the university will move forward to recruit new faculty for our distance pathway in fall 2022 .
Also , watch for the soon-to-launch Graduate Life Sciences program in nutrition and nutrigenomics . Following the Higher Learning Commission ’ s ( HLC ) approval earlier this year , a self-study is being prepared for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics ( ACEND ) site visit early in 2022 .
Additionally , experienced in the accreditation process , Pharmacy faculty are assisting Manchester University to prepare for its comprehensive accreditation review by HLC this fall . Steering committee members for five criteria include Dr . Teri Beam as co-chair of the Academic Governance Council Executive Committee and Dr . Raylene Rospond , who also serves as a team lead . Team members include Drs . Kathryn Marwitz , Jennifer Campbell , Rob Beckett , Diane Calinski and W . Thomas Smith .
