EXECUTION CHAMPIONING the ROCKEFELLER HABITS Alignment equals peace of mind. BY TAYLOR BROWN, ACCOUNTABILITY COACH SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION of the Rockefeller Habits is largely reliant on support from an organization’s leadership team and those identified to carry out the process alongside the team. It goes back to the well-known expression “lead by example”—a crucial principle when adopting the habits in your company. Your team is going to follow your lead, only matching your level of commitment to the process and the regimen it requires. It’s important to set a high standard from the start. As many business leaders have experienced, you likely have a list of “go-to” team members who you turn to first in a pinch—those A-players you know have your back and will push you, the company, and/or the team forward. Similarly, you’ll need to identify individuals you can rely on to drive the initiative forward as you work to engrain the habits into your culture. It’s one thing to talk about the change that needs to happen, but you need boots on the ground: people there holding the team accountable. At Petra Coach, we refer to these rock stars as the Rockefeller Habits Champions. So, Who is Your Rockefeller Habits Champion? The Rockefeller Habits Champion is the person on the team who raises their hand and says, “Yep, that’s mine. I want to own it!” at an opportunity to take action or lead a priority. They tackle strategic decisions with an ownership mind- set. They want to see the team and the company succeed—oftentimes choosing to do the hard things that nobody else will. They are coachable rather than requiring direct management, meaning you can point them in the direction you want them to head, and they will create and execute the path to achieve it. You likely hold them to higher expectations. A team member’s DiSC Workplace Communication Style can also play a part in determining your champion. Typically, champions fall into the “i” or “S” quadrants. These styles lead with a bias toward action, collaboration, enthusiasm, and support. They inspire change in the team through passion and motivation. They are often energized by seeking solutions and driving projects forward. A candidate’s leadership abilities are important to consider as well. Can they motivate the team to action? Does your team value their opinion and follow their direction with full support and buy in? Are they seeking new opportunities to grow and learn both professionally and personally? And are they bringing those lessons back to the team as a way to better the collective whole—not just to better themselves? This person must be cognizant of the fact that if you and your business are growing, but the team is not growing with it, it will inevitably fail. Now, did someone specific come to mind? *Ding Ding* We have a champion! But don’t worry.
