proved beneficial for a few years , Dave ultimately felt that ProTec had outgrown their coach and still had a long way to go . The question now was , what was the next step ?
NEW BEGINNINGS
Following a recommendation from Alan Mintz , a colleague of Verne Harnish , Dave was , at long last , referred to Petra Coach to provide the higher level of coaching his company so desperately needed .
AFTER STARTING WITH PETRA ’ S EVEREST PROGRAM , DAVE IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THEIR EXCEPTIONAL LEVEL OF PROFESSIONALISM , ACCOUNTABILITY , AND ORGANIZATION .
Their planning days were meticulously organized with a unique playbook to follow , and the coaches were easily accessible with an open line of communication . This level of support was unparalleled to any other coaching methodology Dave had experienced before . As a result , after just one planning day with Petra Coach , Dave felt confident that their framework could help him and his team overcome their roadblocks and achieve scalability .
SCALING WITH PETRA COACH GROSS MARGIN & RETURNS
One of the initial challenges addressed by Petra Coach was ProTec ’ s pricing model . Before working with Petra Coach , ProTec hadn ’ t adjusted their prices in over 7 years . Due to the rising costs of materials and labor , this had significantly reduced their gross margin and returns . To solve this issue , the coaches recommended rolling out price increases for current and future customers .
Initially , the ProTec team was hesitant to implement the changes . They feared that higher prices would lead to losing clients to lower-cost competitors , and they believed the market was too slow to take such a risk . Fear was holding them back .
“ We performed research on market prices with them to update their mindset around pricing , which changed the focus from allowing a few customers to dictate their next move to emphasizing their value to good , loyal customers ,” recalls Coach Mark .
Despite their initial hesitations , the ProTec team decided to execute a 20 % rolling price increase across the board . These changes led to a significant increase in gross margin , and they were able to give substantial returns to the organization — allowing for growth , raises to their employees , improved training programs , bonuses for the team , and more . In fact , few customers left due to the changes , and out of those few , the majority returned , recognizing the value ProTec provided .
CORE VALUES & CORE PURPOSE
Although ProTec had previously defined the organization ’ s Core Values and Core Purpose , they had not fully brought them to life . They needed to be more than just words on the wall and truly alive in the day-to-day culture of the company . With Petra ’ s help , they were able to redefine and clarify what their values mean to them and impactfully integrate them within the company .
For the relaunch and to get the team on board , ProTec knew they had to make a big splash . They decided to host a virtual Oscars-themed event that was livestreamed across their 8 offices . During the rollout , they shared stories of times when the core values were exhibited , explained why they mattered , and gave out team awards and core value-themed apparel . This fun and memorable experience helped to re-engage the entire organization , rallying them around their renewed and realigned purpose and core values .
COMMUNICATION & ALIGNMENT
Dave points out that another key factor that set Petra apart for them was the utilization and integration of the strategic growth management software called Align . Align is a software system that allows you to input your One-Page Strategic Plan , then add your Key Thrusts , KPIs , and Meeting Rhythms — covering your long-term and short-term goals — so that everything is up to date in one visible , accessible location .
According to Dave , thanks to the Align software and their Accountability Coaches , ProTec ’ s Meeting Rhythms have significantly improved , saying , “ There ’ s absolutely no comparison between how we operate as a team now and how we operated before . With 9 offices and our employees constantly on the move , Align has been able to keep us all on the same page .” At first , only ProTec ’ s executive team was looped into Align , but now leadership and management have been included , and they ’ re seeing progress like never before !
The biggest change in their communication rhythms was adding Cascading Huddles throughout the various levels of the organization . Now , each branch of the business , regardless of whether they ’ re at the executive , upper management , or field level , is working together much better than before . This has been a significant contributing factor to their ongoing success .
LOOKING AHEAD
ProTec started with only their 5 executive team members participating in the planning day when they began working with Petra . Over time , they gradually spread engagement to their leadership team of 15 . Looking ahead , the next step is to bring in the next level : departments , with the goal of rolling out Petra ’ s planning and methodology to the entire organization as they move forward .
Thanks to the help of Petra Coach over the past few years , Dave and ProTec have been able to break through the glass revenue ceiling that was previously holding them back , renew the culture and communication among their teams , scale their company to increase their reach nationwide , and continue their ongoing mission of improving lives one community at a time .
