DRESS

CODE

When you wake up in the morning to go to school, it’s different for everyone. Children who go to school eat breakfast, pack their bags, and give their parents a hard time about riding the bus. That isn’t always every child that goes to school, but they all have one thing in common; getting dressed. Every child gets excited about getting to wear their new outfit or “cool clothes” to school. But today’s schools are preventing this from happening. Most schools have very strict dress codes, that take away from the students happiness. Read more to find out just how much damage these codes have been causing.

One reason the dress codes are bad is, it is very difficult for students to shop for clothes that are in dress code. Stores don’t always carry garments that are within code. If stores do carry clothes that are in dress code, the clothes tend to be more expensive. And the clothes that are in dress code aren’t always comfortable to the pupils.

Also, dress codes don’t always match everyone's body type. Students with longer arms have to wear longer shorts. These students are forced to wear different clothes than students with shorter arms. Pupils cannot control the size of their limbs and they should not have to suffer because of that.

In addition, it’s a free country, no school should be able to tell you what you can and can’t wear. The school’s dress codes are limiting the students creativity. Pupils should be able to express themselves through their clothes in a responsible way. School’s say that students should be thankful for not having to wear uniforms, but what are they thankful for if you're not wearing the clothes you want? School’s already have a massive amount of control over the students and dress codes should not be added to their list.

In conclusion, dress codes need to change. The current dress codes are making it very difficult for students to buy clothes, they are going against students body types, and limiting creativity for the students. Students’ dress codes need to change.
