STOP BLAMING
Have you ever noticed when you point your finger at someone…
There are always three more fingers pointing back at you? Put your
hand out and point at something. Try it.
When you stop pointing the finger, you have control over yourself.
Just because the other person is acting like a fool, doesn’t mean you
have to be one, too.
ADMIT YOUR MISTAKES
When you acknowledge, “Yes, I forgot to call” you eliminate the
need to make up silly excuses. “I messed up” is the one of the most
responsible things you can ever say. Then you can follow up with
“How can I make it up to you?” and “I’m going to do better.” These
few statements will help people be open to forgive. Your integrity
earns respect.
BE POSITIVE
Love every day with a positive attitude. Have you ever noticed that
people who don’t take responsibility for their own behavior are
negative and cynical? They’re perpetual victims. When you take
responsibility for having the life you want, you switch your focus
from what went wrong to what went right. A small shift in focus
turns a loser into a winner.
ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS
When someone has something nice to say about you, say, “thank
you.” Don’t follow it with some backwards dig about yourself.
Goodness, I’ve been guilty of that so many times. Eek!
KNOW YOURSELF
Taking responsibility means acknowledging both your weaknesses
and strengths. It means acknowledging all that is wonderful about
you. Be kind to yourself. A responsible person continues to grow
emotionally.
No one has ever gotten anywhere in life without experiencing some
major failures along the way. Every single mistake we make, from
the tiny ones to the big ones... teaches us life lessons and allows us to
grow.
So... next time you mess up, fight the urge to blame others for your
failures by thinking about what you could learn if you owned up
and accepted responsibility. You can then reflect on why things
happened the way they did, and decide on ways to stop it from
happening again.
Sometimes you have to be willing to shut up... swallow your pride...
and accept that you’re wrong. It’s not giving up. It’s growing up.
