PERRY’S DEPARTMENT STORE BUYING PORTFOLIO | Page 3

VALS SURVEY My buying motivation reflect both the mentality of an Achiever and an Experiencer. I identify with being an achiever because I am driven by the idea of success and accomplishments. Nothing to me is more satisfying than setting goals and working hard to reach them over time. I am extremely proud of my achievements and take pride in my work because of that. I see myself more as a liberal and respect authorities and the status quo although I do not always follow the mold. I also see myself as an Experiencer because I am a part of the younger crowd and I love to be involved in lots of different things. I fit the mold of an Experiencer because I am a very open person always willing to try new things and take on different challenges. I am fortunate enough to have an abundant of resources available to me which help aid my ambition. Because of these resources I am able spend more on things and try new products to get a better understanding. According to the VALS survey I match both description of an Experiencer and an Innovator. I enjoy the fact that I am considered an Experiencer because that is what I strive to be. There are a few qualities that do I share with Innovators such as having high self-esteem and being an independent person, but I do not see myself above others. I have a fine taste for things at time but at times I also a fairly simple person. My purchases are based on the things that make me happy and not necessarily the “finer things in life”. I do value my image and how I am perceived by others but not in a way that I think too highly of myself. I can relate to many ideals of Innovator but I see myself more as an achiever.
