The Treasure
Trove of Culture
The annual festival held in its 13th edition, Spring of Culture
brought to life once again the rich heritage and all the
elements that make the island so precious
T
wo months of festivities, events,
exhibitions, performances, and
more that highlight the rich culture,
history, and heritage of the Kingdom
of Bahrain that signify and define its
identity as the gem of the Gulf, Spring of
Culture once again brought to the forefront
the diverse nature of the Bahraini people.
This year, the Spring of Culture also
celebrated Muharraq becoming the Capital
of Islamic Culture in 2018, and looked at
the deep-rooted heritage and traditional
of the beautiful island, from looking at the
history of pearl - the foundations upon
which the Kingdom built its infrastructure -
to various exhibits around the country that
detail life in Bahrain during the ancient era
to its contemporary image today. Bahrain,
though a small country, is built upon layers
of interesting history that has shaped
the society, its values, and beliefs. Spring
of Culture also included international
exhibitions and artists that were brought
into Bahrain to showcase a wide spectrum
of arts from various disciplines to appeal
to the different communities that make
up the social fabric of Bahrain, and bring
them together throughout this season
of celebrating Bahrain. Perle Magazine
spoke with Sheikha Hala Mohammed Al
Khalifa, the Director of Culture and Arts
at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and
Antiquities about the happenings of Spring
of Culture 2018 and what makes this year’s
festival truly unique.
