Fashion design, and the way we in
the Middle East perceive garments
have shifted completely. From
influencer, designer collaborations, to
designers breaking the boundaries with
unconventional dress forms, and bold
statements.
For example, lets talk about the
recent Fall 2018 collection by Hussein
Bazaza titled “Lili”, initially the title
seemed obscure, and only when
he disclosed the idea behind his
inspiration, or lack there of, did you
appreciate it. Bazaza’s lack of inspiration

was the root of his creative process for
the collection. Having found a starting
point in demotivation, the pieces
showcased geometric cuts, rough
leather, and constructed stitching. The
looks are glitched, blurred with hazy
effects as embroidery, beading, prints
and motifs.
Apart from Bazaza’s motifs, comes
the minimalistic approach of Kuwaiti
blogger Ascia Al Faraj’s modest, yet
contemporary Ramadan pieces that
she co-created with HAA designs for
Thouqi.com – sticking to her aesthetics
of traditional wear, and utilitarian style,
that pieces are practical, structured,
and are made using light weight fabric,
in neutral palette’s.
From a dice of 6, to a dice of 4,
the local fashion monopoly game will
continue it’s uproar, be it through dress
forms, touching upon topics that once
were set a blind eye on, or standing
up for those who are undermined,
and neglected in the industry, the
movement will continue.
