on Gr. 3 Reading
2016-17 PSSA English/Language Arts Scores (Gr. 3 Only)
Perkiomen Valley’s goal is to have all
students reading on or above grade level
by the conclusion of third grade.
According to the Pennsylvania Depart-
ment of Education: “Research reveals
that reading proficiently by the end of
third grade can be a ‘make-or-break’
benchmark in a child’s educational
development. Academic success, as
defined by high school graduation, can
be predicted with reasonable accuracy
by knowing a child’s reading skills by the
end of third grade.”
Our work to reach this goal begins as
early as kindergarten. We make every
effort to enhance the reading abilities
of those students who demonstrate
they are readers, as well as focus on the
specific needs of students who struggle.
