Staff Highlights

Perkiomen Valley School District employees received a variety of awards and distinctions for their work in 2015-16. Here are just a few:
• Judy Morgitan, Perkiomen Valley High School nurse, received the Outstanding Mental Health Champion Award from Healthy Schools Campaign, sponsored by School Health and Maico Diagnostics.
• Rachel Gallagher, Perkiomen Valley High School teacher, was given a“ Teaching Excellence” Award by the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy for her work leading Perkiomen Valley High School’ s Envirothon Team to the state competition after winning the county level for the last three years.
• Tom Lavanga, Perkiomen Valley High School teacher, was selected as the subject of a segment on“ Xploration Earth 2050”, a television show that airs on Fox stations nationwide. Mr. Lavanga was featured for creating an augmented reality sandbox that is designed to teach students about geologic and hydrologic concepts.
• Mark Ciccarone, Perkiomen Valley High School Spanish teacher, was selected as Preston and Steve’ s“ Coolest Teacher” on the radio station WMMR 93.3 FM.
• Garreth Heidt, Perkiomen Valley High School teacher, published an article titled“ From Sound to Sight” in the April 2015 edition of School Arts magazine.
• David Overholtzer, Perkiomen Valley High School music teacher, was selected as a winner in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association( PMEA) Member level composition contest. His composition, Exultation for Band, was performed by the Duquesne University Wind Ensemble at the PMEA State Convention.
• Dr. Seamus Clune, Principal of Perkiomen Valley Middle School East, was awarded the“ Chapel of Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award” for his service to the community.
• Jessica Lester, Manager of School & Community Engagement, received two Awards of Honor from the Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association for the 2013-14 Annual Report and the 2014-15 Activities Calendar.
