The diary of
I
Miroslava
n November of last year I was very anxious to travel as early as pos-
sible to Panama to take a well deserved vacation, to spend more time
with my family and friends; To feel the heat and humidity that my skin
needed, to get drunk with the smells of the Atlantic and the Pacific, to hear the
codes of the neighborhood, the nicknames, the grubbing, the thing. My friends
told me that the city and my beloved Casco Antiguo were going through many
changes that I could not even imagine. «The vacant lots? That is no longer, as’
so the new premises and there are a lot of foreigners and we have new neigh-
bors ... “(smile from ear to ear).
December arrived, Hello Panama, I hate airports, how good it is to get the
car window down and turn up the radio volume, the breeze is cool, the music
is hot (so it’s going to be called my next trap). I have been in Panama for five
months and the first two I did one of the many things that I love: walking. And
yes, it is true: there are almost no vacant lots; there are new establishments,
different faces, many voices with other musicalities ... and new neighbors. And
I went to ‘Casco on a Friday, as usual. It is not the same walking at night than
day, are two different energies. But before I went to partying to a fixed place,
that night I took for granted the invitation of my friend Galo to know his new
place, called Tio Navaja, located in front of the Ministry of Government. What
a flirtatious place. Automatically, that night I accepted to be the favorite niece
and I allowed myself to consent.
On the ground floor is the restaurant, with a menu of casual and creative
food that falls in love at first sight; But my night took hold in Mula; This is
called the Cocktail Bar of Tio Navaja located on the second floor. Since I start-
ed climbing the steps, with a rocky wall to the right typical of Casco, Mula was
wrapping me with its alternative music and exotic smells coming from the bar:
simply wao! I received the owners: “Welcome to your house,” they told me,
and it was. One of the guys at the bar, with all the good vibes, asked me what I
wanted to drink - I had no idea. “Surprise me,” I said; he looked at me, asked
me a couple of questions and began to prepare something to the rhythm of a
professional (love to be surprised). They tell him Chile, and I assumed that he
is Chilean, because I did not feel the accent. The point is that I saw the bottle
here, the bottle there, elegant copper-colored utensils, fruits and even fire, the
sensation of the show. “I hope you are surprised and enjoy it, Miroslava,” my
friend Chile told me. And so it was: Chile surprised me with an exotic cocktail
of his own by the name of Lady Gatun, inspired by the Panamanian woman
and Gatun Lake, the mother lake that feeds the Panama Canal; It carries
whiskey, cherry syrup, passion fruit and lemon, and the glass is smoked with
cardamom. SUCCESS! Anyway, for the entire scenario that I have just told,
in Mula you breathe sensuality, a small intimate space to enjoy in company or
alone, like me. #CascosQueen
