OCTUBRE DE 2017 ACTUALIDAD Fashion Week Panama: Haute Couture For Every Taste From 12 to 14 October, at the Atlapa Convention Center, the capital city will get all dressed up with lights and catwalks for the Fashion Week Panama event, previously known as Días de Moda (Days of Fashion), in which the public will be able to enjoy a colorful show full of national and international fashion creations. N ew fashion trends have always been present for those who know how to dress well and who have a taste for looking sharp for a special occasion, or to highlight their class for important events in their social or daily lives. The creativity and ingenuity of designers such as Ralph Lauren, Óscar de la Renta, Gianni Versace, Tommy Hilfiger, and Carolina Herrera, among others, have been captured in creations that are a part of the garments worn by, for example, well-renowned film starts, and members of royalty and other social classes. In Panama, fashion is no stranger to our daily lives, as here we also have great designers such as Michelle Zarak, Sarah Bazán, Jaime Luna, and Moi- sés Sandoya, to mention a few, who have used their talent to trace on paper numerous haute couture designs with a touch of elegance and good taste, which will later become the finest outfits ever created. Casco Antiguo News had the opportunity to talk with the founder of this renowned activity, Marie Claire Fontaine de Bueno, who explained how the idea came about to hold an event of such a stature an d the impact it has had, to the point of becoming a point of reference for many designers to get their creations known. 1. How does the idea for creating Fashion Week Panama come about? Fashion Week Panama is the result of having worked hand in hand with designers for more than three decades. For 18 years, our company was a co-producer of the Miss Panama contest, and the contestants always wore outfits created by a Panamanian designer. We worked on this project until 2003. We have also organized events such as model competitions for Super Models of the World Panama and, for nearly a decade, Chica y Chico Modelo (Model Girl and Model Boy). 2. What is the goal of Fashion Week? Fashion Week Panama has had as its main goal to become the launching platform for marketing new collections, as well as for Panamanian and re- gional designers. It has served as a source for contacts and improvement for the designers, and we have made a very great effort to connect fashion with charity causes and foundations, generating donations every year for various NGOs. 3. What novelties will the public attending Fashion Week 2017 be able to enjoy? Changes are coming in the event’s structure and, among the things we would like to strengthen, is the part of marketing the content offered by the designers. 7
