Tío Navaja: Casual Cuisine With a Latino Flair
A place full of Republican history, with a menu made up of delicious and varied dishes, is part of the option that Tío Navaja offers its visitors, always on the lookout for them to spend a pleasant evening.
With a gastronomical concept based on casual cuisine, Tío Navaja opened its doors in 2016. It is located in Central Avenue, between the Second and East Third streets in the Old Quarter, in front of the Ministry of Government, a place where Latino flavors are found in some of its delicious dishes, such as the Cuban or classic sandwich.
The menu at Tío Navaja is influenced by“ the foods from Latin America and all of the cultures that have been present since the Republican era started,” as Galo Pinto, the owner of the establishment, tells Casco Antiguo News. The restaurant has two stories: a ground floor and a first floor( Mula Bar is located in the latter).
But, where does the Tío Navaja name come from? Mr. Pinto explains that“ we wanted to give it a name that played with the idiosyncrasy of Panamanians. We know that Pedro Navaja is one of the most popular characters in Panama’ s musical history, but we also did not want it to be so on the nose, and thus we decided to combine it with“ Tío,” which is one of the most widespread customs in the country. Everyone is called“ tío” in Panama, and thus the name stuck.”
The restaurant’ s ambience is casual and relaxed, full of history from the Republican era, so that everyone who visits can enjoy a pleasant evening with friends or family, or simply relax after a long day at work.
One of the menu options offered by Tío Navaja to diners is the burgatti, an exotic hamburger( and one of the most sought-after, besides the chicken bun), with delicious ingredients such as kimchi ketchup, hot pepper mayo, bacon, onions, sweet pepper relish, and cheese croquettes, which will surely will be an experience for the palate of whoever savors it.
But, if after eating one of the tasty dishes offered by Tío Navaja, you would like to have a good time among friends while enjoying some drinks, we recommend you go up to the first floor, where Mula Bar is located. There, you will find a varied selection of liquors, especially Japanese whiskies that are sold throughout the world, as well as a selection of rums and gins both from Panama and other countries.
The restaurant’ s staff is made up of“ a group of young Panamanians who want to extol Panama’ s good qualities, both gastronomical as well as its liquors and cocktails. Tío’ s idea is for everyone, both locals and tourists, to feel they have arrived at a super casual place where they can have a good time in a relaxed environment,” Mr. Pinto concludes.
Tío Navaja, casual cuisine that will win you over with its Latino flavors.
