Julia Roberts
Colonial Elegance
Julia Roberts has listed her sevenbedroom, four-bathroom home situated in
Kauai’s North Shore in Hanalei, Hawaii for
$29.9 million,
Walking up to the home, you’ll know you’re
in the Aloha State—and not just because
of the magnificent views of Hanalei
Bay and the lush, green mountains
of Kauai. The home’s tropical design and
island vibe are enough to make you want
to bust out your grass skirt. Under the
classic Hawaiian gabled roof you’ll find a
large covered porch, perfect for watching
the sun set over the Na Pali Coast.
Inside, the home has spacious rooms
under impressive open-beam ceilings,
providing a soothing ambiance when you
want to unwind after a day of surfing the
waters of Hanalei or hiking the Powerline
Trail. If you prefer being cosy indoors, the
home has wide wall-to-wall windows to let
in the plentiful island sunshine.
Outside, the home sits on one of the
island’s last remaining large double
lots. In case you find the home’s 3,792
square feet insufficient, it is approved for
expansion up to 9,000 square feet.
While it’s not a global A-lister, the home has
achieved a bit of local renown. Known as
the Faye Property, it was purchased by
sugar cane magnate Hans Peter Faye in
1915. The businessman purchased
adjoining lots to expand his own little
slice of the beach. The lots were
never broken up, and owners of this
property enjoy twice as much beachfront
as their neighbours.
The surrounding neighbourhood is
no slouch. Roberts may be moving out, but
the new property owners will have plenty
of opportunities to rub elbows with famous
folks. The home sits on Hawaii’s laid-back
and celeb-laden North Shore, where
Pacific Business News reported Chuck
Norris and Mark Zuckerberg have recently
purchased property.
