FOCUS HOW TO SHAPE COLLEGE EDUCATION TO SHAPE UP TOMORROW’S NATION Dr. Chandan Medatwal Assistant Professor (OB HR), NIIT University, Neemrana, Rajasthan, India “Give a man a fi sh- you feed him just for day. But teach him how to catch fi sh and you feed him for a lifetime” This adage itself justifi es the title of this article, still, let’s delve a bit more into how nation building can be done by strengthening the skills of school going children through a proper education system. T here is a concept called ‘Tabula Rasa’, which has been researched upon keenly by many prominent philosophers and psychologists. It means that humans are born without any in- built mental matter. Hence, all the knowldge and development comes through experiences and perception. Cognitive psychologists have pointed out that children are like Blank Slates. You can write anything on them and they would reciprocate and radiate the same script. So, you understand, how important is it for the education system to to impart such skills for the developing children, so that they can grow up to brighten the nation’s future. Their insights and foresights must be developed with proper understanding and futuristic orientation. Real success of citizens is in the success and strengthening of the nation and vice versa, as there is no nation, would could be complete without its people and no people who could be identifi ed without their nation. Without a state, people would go haywire and without people, the state would be useless. From micro to macroeconomic level, we at the adult stage, can directly contribute to shape the future of our nation. But where did we acquire this potential from? Was it through the television? Or the Radio? How are Indian companies that are around 75 years old, contributing to the economic growth of our nation? Ofcourse, the genesis is the School. There are civil servants, because of whom our nation is able to run its policies. These bureaucrats 40 | Vol. 10 Issue 3 • MARCH 2019, Delhi NCR have provided the sculpture to the nation for a convinient functioning for the people. How has it all happened? Their foundation has been education too. But there is a sure need to re-evaluate our educational system, to check whether it supports the mindset of nation building in young children or just individual growth. There are several government schemes and NGO lead programs for running intensive camps on education, like communication skills’ enhancement by the National Training Center, Delhi; NGOs like Pratham also run a lot of Train the Trainer programs. Such programs have low cost investment and high impact on education. But their success depends on the enthusiasm shown by the teachers and the students. Across the globe, education reform embraces the idea that trivial changes in education will have large social returns in citizen health, wealth, well-being and nation building. From ancient times, one goal that has been persistent is to reduce the expense of the conventional education. Higher education is fl ourishing in many aspects, be it management or technical. Their curriculum as well as their extra- curricular activities are the pathfi nders for hidden talents. There is not just one aspect of the child that
