A BLUEPRINT FOR THE FUTURE
The Master Plan for Lyford Cay International School
By Dr Joanna Paul, Development Director
Since our founding as a small community school more
than a half-century ago, Lyford Cay International School
(LCIS), has distinguished itself as a leader in education in
The Bahamas and the Caribbean. Receiving international
accreditation in 1998, the school became Lyford Cay
International School and is privileged to be among
an exclusive number of schools worldwide that offer
three programmes of the International Baccalaureate
Organisation. The school has reached programmatic
maturity and continues to be certified by four accreditation
agencies.
education is transformative. The results have been notable,
especially when compared to institutions of greater size,
larger endowments and longer histories.
While we have been remarkably effective in preparing
our students for success in academics and in life, it is
clear that our campus and facilities present limitations
to our flourishing programmes and increasing enrolment.
In 2013, the Board of Directors and Governors reviewed
several plans to accommodate the school’s growth and
decided that both refurbishments to the existing property
and the construction of a new Upper School would be the
best solution to address enrolment trends, programmatic
needs and facility demands.
LCIS has experienced tremendous growth in a relatively
short period, maximising every square inch of its lovely
campus. For several years now, we have sustained the
maximum enrolment allowed by our size and currently
maintain a robust waiting list, as we attract a record
number of diverse students (over one third of whom are
Bahamian).
With this in mind, in 2015 the school purchased 12.5
acres of land southwest of St Paul’s Church with generous
gifts from TradeInvest Asset Management, Holowesko
Partners Ltd, Ignacio and Amalia de la Rocha, Basil and
Anne Goulandris and Christopher and Courtney Sarofim.
Once the land was secured, the next critical step was to
begin planning for the transformation of both campuses.
LCIS is home to 13 languages and 45 nationalities.
Educated in an international setting, our 108 graduates
are studying or working in 23 countries on five continents.
Our students excel. Our teachers inspire. Our curriculum
challenges. Our programmes excite. Simply put, an LCIS

APPRECIATION FOR OUR LEADERSHIP DONORS
LCIS needed the leadership of a few generous donors to begin the process of our
physical transformation as a world-class IB school. We are so very grateful to the
donors listed below for their belief in the strategic vision for the campus and their
support in the earliest days of this project. Their thoughtful contributions allowed
for the purchase of the land and for the comprehensive master planning process.
On behalf of the students, parents and staff of Lyford Cay International School:
THANK YOU.
