Her classmate Mandisa Walle said, “in my opinion, Design Technology has allowed me to see things from different perspectives. Design class has allowed me to appreciate the aesthetics of design: we think carefully about the use of colours, pictures and music in order to appeal to our audience. The Design course has exposed me to many different software applications. Within each unit, I have become accustomed to taking unfamiliar computer applications and working both to understand them and then to use them to solve DESIGN TECHNOLOGY HAS problems.” ALLOWED ME TO SEE THINGS FROM DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. -- Mandisa Walle, Grade 10 Student In the NASA challenge being pursued in the Computer-Assisted Design (CAD) elective, students are being asked to contribute solutions to the problem of food supply in a zero-gravity environment. The task is open-ended and students are taking a variety of approaches to the challenge. This is just one example of computer-assisted design undertaken this year. Mr Matheson said, “We are fortunate to have a good standard 3D printer on site and the school is obtaining a 3D scanner for next year’s projects. This enables us to expand the range of solutions students can design.” Through courses and elective offerings such as these, LCIS is instilling tomorrow’s leaders with the skills they will need to find solutions to the complex problems of the future. 2015-16 DESIGN PROJECTS HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION STUDY CUSTOMISED VIDEO GAME CONTROLLERS EDUCATIONAL GAME CODING LEARNING-SPACE DESIGN FILM SOUNDSCAPES GRAPHIC NOVELS SOUND DESIGN SPAGHETTI TOWER CHALLENGE COMPANY BRANDING AND LOGOS MOVIE TRAILERS WEBSITES AND GRAPHIC INTERFACES KITE BUILDING LAPTOP CASE CUSTOMISATION STOP-MOTION ANIMATION 3D PRINTING PERSONALISED KEYCHAINS 8
