John and Randi , what would you say has been your experience at LCIS from a parent perspective ?
Randi : What I value a lot is how independent my kids are . They are able to research things on their own . Compared to when John and I went to high school , I feel my kids are much better prepared for university study . They ’ re already used to working on their own at a very high standard . The transition from high school to university is much smoother with the IB than it was in our case with a public high school diploma . I feel the standard for the IB is very high .
What are your best memories of LCIS ?
The Willoch children on their first day of school at LCIS
sometimes , you would see some people don ’ t even have sources at all . Some people have a list of links to just online sites . Some people just put Wikipedia . So , I think just having a basic understanding of citations is a big thing , and having research skills in general .
Indianna : I think the most important experience I had was taking Math Higher Level ( HL ) online because it was really difficult , yet I think it made me a much better student . Also , I appreciated working closely with teachers . Obviously , the classes are going to be a lot bigger in university , but I still have experience working with my teachers a bit more closely because of the small class sizes .
Leon : The IB Diploma prepared me to write long reports which I had to do often , which was similar to the Extended Essay .
Indianna , you had a unique senior experience . What lessons have you learned from the past year ?
Indianna : Well , it wasn ’ t just COVID-19 . Hurricane Dorian also affected The Bahamas during my senior year . Compared to many people , we weren ’ t as badly affected , so I think we learned to just help where you can . And try to be flexible because anything can happen .

Randi : All three of my children played together in the steel drum band . And , all of them went to the Model United Nations ( MUN ) in Montréal . They got to do all this travel . Leon went to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands with sports . They all went to Florida to do their Extended Essay research . I think all this was enrichment for them , and because it ’ s a small school , they had the ability to join in so many things .
Benjamin : MUN was always very , very fun every year , going to Montréal . Also interesting was when I received my gold award for Governor General ’ s Youth Award ( GGYA ), and we got to meet Prince Edward .
John : For me , it was serving as the security boat on Indianna ’ s GGYA gold kayaking trip from Staniel Cay to Norman ’ s Cay . Not only was it unbelievably beautiful , but it was also a hard slog . My boat broke down on the way down with all the kayaks , and I had to show some resourcefulness , but it was just unbelievably beautiful . I think about that trip very often .
Indianna : Something that sticks out to me . I think it was eighth or ninth grade . We had an online call with a Holocaust survivor . That was a very interesting experience , and it definitely gave everyone a lot to think about .
Leon : Representing my school at a football tournament in Jamaica .
