Jake: Today we’ re here with Dean Gooch, the sales manager in England for the CPA Engineered Solutions Limited, which is of course part of the CPA group. Dean, thank you for joining us this morning. How are you?
Dean: I am very well, thank you. How are you?
Jake: I’ m very well. The weather’ s been nice. The football result was brilliant the other night. I don’ t know if you managed to catch the game or if you was busy working?
Dean: Yeah, I was, of course, probably like many others,, I was working away, but I managed to catch the game at one of the local pubs where I was staying. So it was good to see the atmosphere and see a positive result. Good performance, I guess.
Jake: Absolutely brilliant. I’ ll be honest, when Harry Kane Missed, the first penalty, I was a little bit worried. I think the whole nation was, but we soon put that right. And what a great start. And to beat such a big team so early on, it was fantastic,
Dean: It wouldn’ t be normal without a bit of drama to start the game off with. So, you know, we’ re all kind of used to those circumstances when watching the team play.
Jake: How’ s business? Is everyone keeping well your end?
Dean: Yeah, it’ s a busy period, as you’ d expect. You know, much of what we do at CPA can be quite seasonal at times. You know, it’ s the

time of year where you get the heat waves and people are being reactive in some cases. You know, situations where people are asking, what can you do for me and how quickly could you do it? So you’ re always on hand to try and sort of meet the demand, so to speak. But no, things in general are quite good, quite steady, and, you know, we’ re always looking for new opportunities.
Jake: How does evaporative cooling help businesses reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint while still delivering effective workplace cooling?
Dean: No single cooling technology suits every application. The right solution depends on the environmental requirements of the space. While some facilities require precise temperature and humidity control, direct evaporative cooling provides an effective comfort cooling and ventilation solution for many industrial and commercial environments.
Available in direct, indirect, and hybrid formats, evaporative cooling delivers effective cooling with significantly lower energy consumption than conventional air conditioning. By reducing energy use and introducing fresh air, it can help businesses improve workplace conditions while supporting sustainability goals.
Jake: With energy prices continuing to rise, what level of savings can businesses typically achieve by choosing evaporative cooling over conventional air conditioning systems?
Dean: Evaporative cooling uses significantly less energy because it relies on the natural cooling effect created when water evaporates into an airflow. In contrast, conventional air conditioning systems use compressors, condensers, and refrigeration circuits, all of which consume large amounts of electricity.
As evaporative cooling only requires a fan and a small water recirculation pump, its energy demand is much lower. While a refrigeration system may require 20 – 50kW of electrical input to cool a large industrial space, an evaporative cooling system can deliver similar airflow using just a few kilowatts.
However, the two technologies serve different purposes.
