MEASUREMENT & MONITORING Ultrasonic Clamp-on Meter User Issues NEW MM7010 Bluetooth Logging Thermometer/Print Combo Corrosion protection for chimney at bio-methane plant Ultrasonic Clamp On Flowmeters can provide solutions for onsite flow calibration, and with the latest user-friendly wizards, obtaining reliable and accurate measurements should pose no problems. Do you regularly process goods-in for fresh/ frozen food, pharmaceuticals or other temperature-sensitive products? Are you responsible for temperature data integrity of products delivered to or from your kitchen, factory, warehouse or supermarket? Would you like to digitally log product temperatures with a handheld device AND produce an instant paper receipt at the same time? If the answer is YES, YES and YES, you can also make yourself a great saving of nearly £50 when you buy the NEW MM7010 Bluetooth Logging Thermometer Print Combo : 2 pieces of kit – 1 price. TME’s MM7010PRINT combines a handheld Bluetooth Logging Thermometer MM7010 with a Bluetooth Printer (MMPRINT) delivering digital logging and instant paper receipts at the same time. Leeds based corrosion protection and engineering services specialist- Corroserve was contracted to protect the internal surfaces of a newly manufactured mild steel chimney prior to it being installed at a bio-methane plant on Teesside. The 1.2m diameter chimney was in three sections – 30m in all. The plant processes the sludge remaining after sewage treatment to produce bio-methane, which is an alternative source of energy to fossil fuels. Bio-methane production offers a number of other environmental benefits including stopping the release of methane and other harmful gases produced by organic matter decomposing into the atmosphere. The client is satisfied that the new lining will protect it from corrosion attack for a considerable time and remains confident that they have a long-term cost-effective solution, particularly when compared with the cost of repairing or replacing the chimney in the future. The study found large variances in results due to installation setup and meter quality. The variance was significantly higher with the lower cost clamp- on meters than the higher performance more costly meters. Our Part 1 blog details the issues found in the study with respect to meter calibration and user installation. Developed for automotive paint plants, where paint engineers face demanding challenges of ATEX classification requirements, for safe operation of monitoring systems. At the heart of the PhoenixTM FIS04 ATEX system, the Intrinsically Safe PTM1410 Epsilon-x data logger certified to Group II Category 3G allowing safe operation in Zone 2 ATEX classified areas (eg: paint booth, flash off zone and cure oven). Providing up to 10 points of measurement, paint processes can be monitored accurately and effectively. Thermal View Finishing software provides graphical cure analysis tools for verifying process compliance with ease.  Tel: 01353 223100 [email protected] www.phoenixtm.com 146 PECM Issue 43 Sensor device and method for detecting gear damage in rotating elements in housing GTR-01 The company PCE Process Control Electronic GmbH in cooperation with DELTEC electronic GmbH has developed a sensor device and a method to detect damage to rotating parts in a closed housing. Tests on ferromagnetic gears have been suc-cessfully carried out so far. The housing was made of die-cast aluminium. The pro-cess uses magnetic fields: Electromagnets generate magnetic fields, while a Hall sensor picks up the resulting fields. A special evaluation program determines whether a defective part is present. The damage can, for example, consist of a par-tially or completely broken tooth or a crack. Device options allow the speed and di-rection of rotation of the rotating part to be determined. The device can also be used for continuous monitoring on machines.
