FLUID HANDLING
FLOTRONIC INTRODUCES ‘ONE NUT’ BARREL UNLOADING
Flotronic has introduced a new barrel and
drum unloading system, combining the
unique ‘ONE NUT’ pump with their barrel
unloading skid. The new system enables you
to pump highly viscous materials out of your
barrel at significantly increased flow rates.
This system is built around our ‘ONE-NUT’
sanitary style pump which is based on our
3A and EHEDG design. This style of pump
has already proven itself in the hygienic /
sanitary industries and is a match for any
environment or process where avoidance of
product contamination is paramount. The
system can be Cleaned in Place using the
pump itself or an external CIP rig or, because
of the ‘ONE NUT’ design of the pump, it can
be easily stripped down for cleaning.
“Using an inflatable seal, the system
ensures minimal wastage is achieved and
the minimum of product remains in the
barrel.” Says Leighton Jones, Sales Director,
Flotronic Pumps. “As the seal inflates it
creates an excellent seal while moving down
the barrel and at the end of the process it
deflates for easy removal. There is less hold
up compared to other systems, which means
you can empty challenging viscous fluids
from full size drums in a matter of minutes,
improving productivity with increased profit
potential.”
This hygienic hands-free control of the
unloading is efficient and reliable using
proven technology, with application across
the food, beverage and pharmaceutical
industries. Flotronic provide bespoke systems
to customer requirements and can cater for
any fibre, metal or plastic 200 litre/55 gallon
drum or similar. The barrel unloading skid
can be fully mobile or fixed in place, with the
system designed to suit your needs, including
roller systems if required.
Using Dynamic Modelling
to Troubleshoot Pumping
System Trip SPX Flow Inc. appoints
AxFlow UK to distribute APV
components
Dynamic modelling provides a cost-effective
means to troubleshoot and determine solutions
for such system issues. The benefits include
reduced downtime, re-instated availability and
improved system reliability. Recurring trips
on a 6.9 MW motor driven multistage barrel
type centrifugal pump was the cause of severe
outage on a North Sea (UK) crude oil processing
platform. Plant shutdown lasted sometimes a
full day, or more, resulting in significant loss in
production. The pump tripped on high suction
pressure and the trips were observed during
start-up. The problem on the crude oil pumping
system was solved by installing a larger Cv
recycle valve and system availability was
restored. This case not only shows how dynamic
modelling can help troubleshoot pumping
systems, but also provides a deeper insight into
the role of each of its key components. . AxFlow UK Limited has announced its
appointment by SPX Flow Inc., (NYSE: FLOW) as
its primary distribution partner for APV brand
process components and parts in the UK food
and beverage market. The agreement includes
APV pumps, valves, homogenisers, mixers and
sanitary heat exchangers. This is a major step
forward for both companies and follows the
long term successful partnership between SPX
Flow and AxFlow representing the Waukesha
Cherry-Burrell (WCB) brand in the UK.

Tony Peters further commented: “We will add
sales and technical support personnel to our
team and look forward to providing additional
sales impetus to the APV product lines. Further,
we will build upon our investment in APV stock
at our European Distribution Centre to ensure
best-in-market lead times”.

Leybold’s pump for food
processing and packaging
Leybold will present its100% oil-free screw type
vacuum pump NOVADRY for food processing
and packaging at the international trade fair
for the meat industry IFFA in Frankfurt am Main
from 04 to 09 May 2019 in hall 11, booth A41.
The completely newly developed, oil-free
screw vacuum pump ensures significantly
greater safety and efficiency in food and
packaging processes.The demands placed by
manufacturers and consumers on the quality,
shelf life and resource efficiency of food and
packaging processes are constantly increasing.
This applies even more to such perishable
products as for example meat or fish. Vacuum
is considered as an enabling technology,
contributing significantly to optimizing these
processes. Leybold developed the Novadry as a
new 100% oil-free, air-cooled pump.
