Anti Basileus Message
When there is a toddler in the house, we
Vacuum more often to pick up small
objects;
We cover the outlets to keep them
safe from tiny fingers;
We don’t leave items lying about that
can be pulled from a table or a dress-
er;
We purchase safety gates for stairs
and doorway entries;
We put locks on cabinet doors, and
We rearrange the furniture.
In other words, our goal is to act rather
than react, to prevent rather than fix be-
cause an ounce of prevention is worth a
pound of cure.
That is the description/ goal of risk management – namely to look at Theta Rho
Omega and its events to see where the risks lie, and as much as possible prevent
them or minimize the possibility that something might happen. In the event that
a problem should arise, a plan is in place. Life happens. The best laid plans can
go astray.
Why is a risk management plan necessary?
It is easy to destroy in minutes a reputation that has been building for over a
hundred years.
Attitudes are changing – more self-interest, more willingness to sue others.
As the numbers grow, the risks grow.
The short intake period means less of a chance to form sisterly bonds. Relation-
ships need time to grow.
Some sorors are still stuck on the past traditions and want to “make” sorors.
Misuse of funds have occurred.
Guidelines for operations are not always followed.
This is to name a few of the items to be included in our discussion.
Risk is anything that jeopardizes the health, safety, or welfare of an individual or
organization. It is important to review areas of risk and possible impacts on the
sorority. The first risk management issue to be discussed will be hazing.
