With the help of Carolinas Medical Center, Dr. Jeffrey Rosenfeld and Jane’s grandfather we set about creating a research lab with the goal of finding a cure for Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy 2i. This is the exact diagnosis of our daughter. We were very fortunate to recruit Dr. Qi Lu from London. Dr. Lu is renowned in his field of Muscular Dystrophy research. Our lab, McCollLockwood Laboratory for Muscular Dystrophy Research is arguably the leader in Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy research. We have made great strides towards a cure but still it eludes us. She has spoken publically about her challenges with this disease for many years now. She has spoken at our fundraiser, “Jeans, Genes and Geniuses”, which is held every other year to raise money 2.
