BEAUTY
great, which is something I had never thought to be true with a retinoid. As I
wrote about in September, if you are over 35, you MUST have a retinoid in your
skincare routine. It promotes skin cell turnover, increases collagen production,
which wanes as we age, (is it still there? I hope so!) and keeps your skin brighter.
Lips, hands, etc.
I don’t need to preach on this one. We all know how
bad your lips feel in the cooler months. Be diligent
about keeping a quality balm on your lips at night
(really coat it on), and use it throughout the day under
or instead of lip color. I love Aveda’s Lipsaver, which
feels rich and gives a little shine too. My other favorite
is Labello. It’s hard to find chapstick-like lip balm but
I got turned on to by my teenager who found it on a
vlog. Turns out it is made in Germany and only (to
my knowledge) sold online. Does this make me want
it more? Yes, irrational I know, but true nonetheless.
The other oldie-but-goodie favorite is Merle Norman’s
Super Lube, an all-purpose, put-it-anywhere dry skin
moisturizer. It works works on any parched skin
including lips, hands, feet, chapped cheeks and elbows.
I have written about this one before, but I love Sara
Happ’s Lip Slip and Lip Scrub. It’s a splurge for sure,
but it’s totally decadent and well worth it. The lip balm
lasts forever and because you aren’t likely to treat it
carelessly like ChapStick, it won’t end up melting in
your dryer as do so many drugstore brands.
Last but not least is the L’Occitane Lip Balm. I love this
stuff! It works and is long-lasting. L’Occitane also
has great hand creams such as the Shea Butter Hand
Cream. And their fragrances are so luscious. n
