Llandudno and llandudyes

The do ’ s and don ’ t of North Wales GP Written by Fru Bako , Maggie Franklin , Apeksha Mallya , Hannah Meredith , Edward Wilcocks and Matt Drew

The University of Liverpool offers all 4th year medical students a golden opportunity – apply to North Wales GP placement with your friends in your allocated placement group eg Group B . You can apply as duos , triples even 8s ( if you are good friends with that many people in your group .) Eight people are then chosen and sent on their holidays for their four-week GP block in Llandudno , situated in North Wales . The university provide accommodation in a place that has the same vibes as Carnatic but more homely and less 18 year olds ( however we have definitely clocked some underage 14 years olds outside the only club in Llandudno ( The Boulevard )) We applied as friends and we were all luckily allocated it ! We have thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity and we would like to encourage others to apply so we have put together a little guide on experiences to do , things you need to bring and the best places to eat and drink over your time here . If you were not lucky enough to get placed in North Wales for GP , it is only a 1.5hr drive from Liverpool so take a free Saturday and drive down !
Llandudyes - the Dos :
Do try Enoch ’ s for fish and chips . It is known locally as the best fish and chips ! If you have a big appetite do not fret as they offer unlimited chips when you dine in ( Ed took them upon this free offer and had a second portion !)
Do try different pubs – we recommend The Cottage Loaf for a traditional pub lunch . Or if you ’ re feeling just nice drink vibes try The Ascot Tap Room / Tapps for a local craft beer ( The Ascott Tap Room and Tapps are under the same ownership .) Johnny Dough ’ s is a restaurant that is good for Neapolitan style pizza . If you ’ re looking for a slightly less fancy vibe you can ’ t miss out on £ 1.10 pints at the local Wetherspoons , The Palladium . If spoons isn ’ t your vibe , we suggest the Kings Arm , the atmosphere can get very lit on a Saturday . You can end the night at the Boulevard ( mentioned above , as Llandudno ’ s famous club !).
Do spend a Saturday wandering up the high street ( Mostyn Street ) which is filled with charity shops . You may end up finding a snazzy new jacket , a book that you ’ ve seen recommended everywhere or a mug to equip the kitchen with . Once you have built up an appetite stop off for freshly cooked donuts at the pier or a cream tea at one of the cafes . We really liked Habit Tearooms as they had a fantastic selection of cakes but there are so many options to choose from .
