before, many scientists agree today that a
sustainable population of our planet hovers around
9 to 10 billion; and weʼre now well over 7 billion.
Sadly the increase isnʼt a historically gradual
process. It required tens of thousands of years in
human history to reach one million humans, while
only a few millenniums were required for another
six billion.
Of course, our planet could survive infinitely
longer if geopolitically all nations and their minions
were equal in caring for each otherʼs survival
needs for basic food and water. I know Iʼve written
about the sustainability of our population before;
however, itʼs worth another reminder: we live on
a “planet” that needs our constant gratitude and
nurturing if weʼre to survive.
Could our thoughtless abuse of our planet have
inspired NASAʼs astronomically expensive space
exploration in search of another “biosphere” for us
to inhabit when we trash this one?
