Your Dewey-Humboldt Town LIBRARY NEWS! 2735 Corral St. in Humboldt • (928) 632-5049 Come out of the cold and go to YOUR library. We have a lot of great activities in January. Enjoy our great book discussion, come for a fantastic movie for grownups, a wonderful IONS meeting with guest speaker Ashley Brothers, entertaining TV shows and movies, computer classes, a story time for children, and game days for kids! And, while here, use our computers, check out some of our informative books, and find some fun movies! Find out what YOUR public library provides for you! The library’s Movies for Grownups is scheduled on the last Tuesday of each month. We show a recently released or a classic DVD movie on our 90” movie screen, with a discussion to follow. The library is showing The Martian on Tuesday, January 26: 5:30 – 8:30pm (please note the early start time). This movie, based on the book by Andy Weir, centers around an expedition to Mars. Astronaut Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon), apparently dies in an accident and is left behind by the team as they leave Mars. However, they later find out he is still alive as they travel back to Earth. Mark struggles to find a way to survive alone on Mars while hoping beyond hope to be rescued. The movie has spectacular acting, special effects, and scientific accuracy. Don’t miss out! Please register for this fun movie in advance by calling 928-632-5049. Refreshments will be served. special. January 16, we will be showing the 2016 New Year’s Day Sherlock special. January 23 will see a classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode. And starting on January 30, we will be airing the brand new episodes of The X-Files. We have some great idea for later in the year. Refreshments will be served. The library’s Book Discussion Group will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 12: 9:30 – 10:45am. The group is reading, The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield. This spooky story is about Margaret Lea, the daughter of a London bookseller, who is contacted by renowned aging author Vida Winter. Margaret travels to Yorkshire to interview Vida about her estate, a governess, abandoned babies, a ghost, and more. Good reading for cold winter nights! The library has copies of the book available for checkout. So, come in to the library to pick up a copy of the book, and then come for the discussion. There will be light refreshments. The library will offer Computer Basics 101, a two-part class, which will instruct students on basic concepts of using a computer, offer practice in using the keyboard and the mouse, and teach basic computer terminology. The class will be offered on Wednesdays, The Dewey-Humboldt IONS group will meet on Tuesday, January 5: 10:30am – 12:30pm. For January, the group will have special guest speaker Ashley Brothers from Sedona talking about Shamanism. In Ms. Brothers’s own words, “It (Shamanism) changed my life from one of pain and misery to one of beauty and joy. I won’t say my life was easy though. I suffered years of illness and almost died, but not only did it save my life, it also helped me cope and find a way to cure a disease that is rare and usually requires chemotherapy to fix. I’ve trained in Peruvian Shamanism (Alberto Villoldo’s program), Lakota traditions, and core shamanism from cultures throughout the world (Michael Harner’s program).” The group will discuss the role of Shamans and their healing The IONS meetings are open to everyone with all points of view. Visitors are welcome! The library is having Afternoon Story Time with Ms. Maizie for children on Tuesday, January 26: 1:00-1:45pm. Geared for preschool and Kindergarten age kids, this fun activity will help children in reading and learning concepts. We have a winter theme books planned for the little ones this month! Parents must stay with their children during this fun event. The library has a brand new program, Fans of Cultdom, for Saturday afternoons, from 1:00 – 3:30pm. Join us as we enjoy movies and TV shows from a variety of different genres including science fiction, action, suspense, mystery, horror, and comedy.
