Your Dewey-Humboldt Town LIBRARY NEWS! 2735 Corral St. in Humboldt • (928) 632-5049 YOUR library has some great activities planned for the month of February. Enjoy our great book discussion, come for a fantastic movie for grownups, participate in an informative IONS meeting, view entertaining TV shows and movies, take our great computer classes, learn in a story time for children, and fun for all in our game days for kids! Our Thursday book sales are back too! While you are here, use our computers, check out some of our informative books, and find some fun movies! Find out what YOUR public library provides for you! The library’s Movies for Grownups is scheduled on the last Tuesday of each month. We show a recently released or a classic DVD movie on our 90” movie screen, with a discussion to follow. The library is showing A Walk in the Woods on Tuesday, February 23: 6:00 – 8:00pm. This movie, based on the Bill Bryson bestselling book, stars Robert Redford, Nick Nolte, and Emma Thompson about old friends who decide to hike the 2,200 mile Appalachian Trail. Please register for this fun movie in advance by calling 928-632-5049. Refreshments will be served. The Dewey-Humboldt IONS group will meet on Tuesday, February 2: 10:30am – 12:30pm. For February, the group will discuss the topic “What Role Does Consciousness Play in Health and Healing”. To aid in this discussion, the group will examine two books, Consciousness & Healing by Marilyn Schlitz PhD and Tina Amorok and Awakening the Energy Body from Shamanism to Bioenergetics by Kenneth Smith. The group is encouraging participants to bring similar books or ideas on this topic and share their insights. IONS meetings are open to everyone with all viewpoints. Visitors are welcome! The library is having Afternoon Story Time with Ms. Maizie for children on Tuesday, February 23: 1:00-1:45pm. Geared for preschool and Kindergarten age kids, this fun activity will help children in reading and learning concepts. We have a winter theme books planned for the little ones this month! Parents must stay with their children during this fun event. Call the library, 928-632-5049, for more information. The library will offer Windows Desktop, a two-part class, which will help participants learn how to use the Microsoft Windows desktop interface plus help in learning how to organize files on the computer. The class will be offered on Wednesdays, February 17 (part 1) and 24 (part 2): 10:30am – 12:30pm. Signup is required. Call 928-632-5049 or stop in to register. Afternoon Games, for ages 7 and up, will be held on Wednesdays: 2:30 - 4:00 pm. Kids can come down to play board games including Battleship, Connect 4, Chess, Checkers, Candy Land, Sorry!, Monopoly Jr., Scrabble, Dominoes, Parcheesi, Clue, and more! Also, we’ll have the Wii out to play on the library’s huge 90” movie screen. Come and play Super Mario Bros., Wii Sports Resort, Mario Karts, Just Dance 3, Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games, Mario Sports Mix, and more! Bring your Wii games to the library to play against others! Every Thursday: 1:00 – 5:00 pm, the Friends of the Library are having a continuing “featured” Book Sale, downstairs in the JW Mitchell Room at the library. Each Thursday, a new selection of gift-quality books will be on display for purchase. Most hardback books are $1.00 or more. Most paperback books are $0.25 or higher (Romance and Western paperbacks are only $0.10 each!) with the larger “Trade” paperbacks starting at $0.50 per book. DVD movies, audio books, and coffee table style books are priced at $2.00 or more. We have books for kids and teens! All prices are as marked. Come back each Thursday to find new items to add to your personal library collection! For February, we will be watching the brand new 2016 episodes of The X-Files. Refreshments will be served. The library’s Book Discussion Group will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 9: 9:30 – 10:45am. The group is reading, Montana 1948, by Larry Watson. This story centers on an investigation by Sheriff Wesley Hayden of the death of a Native American woman, Marie Little Soldier, in the small community of Bentrock, Montana. The sheriff is faced with the difficulty of keeping family loyalties and serving justice during the investigations. The library has copies of the book available for checkout. Come in to the library to pick up a copy of the book, and then come for the discussion. We will have refreshments. pccnews
