Norwood is presenting the story of the challenges,
adversity, and triumphs of the Tuskegee Airmen. Arizona
is home to several outstanding Tuskegee veteran pilots and
crew members. Known as the “Red Tails” for the red paint
pattern on their P-51 Mustangs during World War II when
they served as fighter pilots protecting heavy bombers in
U. S. missions over Europe, these pioneer men proved their
abilities and paved the way for others to follow in aviation
careers. In March 2007, President George W. Bush presented
the Congressional Gold Medal to the Tuskegee Airmen to
honor them for their outstanding service.
