It’s the first week of November, and you’ve already started making New Year plans. As the month progresses, fast forward to the week of Thanksgiving; you begin to pump yourself up for the beginning of the year by proclaiming, “This is it, this is my year! 2016, is, MY, year!” We tell ourselves, “This year I’m going to ….,” and right here, in this very moment, we set ourselves up for failure by putting demands on ourselves about future unfulfilled resolutions.

When it comes to Wellness and Fitness, let’s be honest, this topic is one of the most trending but most despised topics out there; because no one really wants to talk about how we should deprive ourselves of what we perceive to be “everything delicious”, or how we should drag ourselves off of the couch, from in front of our favorite shows, to stay active.

We approach the New Year the same way, year after year. New Year’s resolution number 1, number 2, number 3 and the list goes on. What we forget to remember, is life is full of variety, options are abundant, and with the advancement of technology, there is almost no reason for us not to find what works best for them in any area. I'm a firm believer in doing things out of the box, and that also applies to how I operate in Wellness and Fitness; as a matter of fact, it may be one of the areas of our lives that can use the most spunk and variety!

Let’s keep it simple and talk about what’s really important versus what we think is important. Counting calories, diets and quick fix pills are no longer important or effective. You need tips and ideas that fit your lifestyle and offer variety. These next 4 Tips will free you from the normal routine of setting Fitness resolutions and breaking them, by offering you options that can be applied to your everyday life for any goal.

4 TIPS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS ALL YEAR

1. SET GOALS OF SUBSTANCE

One of the most important goals to set when accepting a new challenge of this kind, is to set goals of substance vs. goals of convenience. There’s a big difference between setting a goal to get in shape for a summer vacation or to fit in that pair of jeans that once fit like they were custom made. Compared to setting a goal to get in shape to have the luxury of actively playing with your kids without exhaustion or fatigue, or making the choice not to live physically restricted or inconvenienced by medications. When the goal has substance and purpose attached to it, it has a greater chance of actually sticking with us. Even if we have to revise it, put it down and come back to it; it’s almost as if giving it value attaches its significance to the innate part of us to be better and do better; on repeat in our minds, tugging at our core to keep trying until we get it right.
