Corporate Wellness Challenge

For the past four years, PBGH has changed the game when it comes to health care promotion by offering a coalition-wide Corporate Wellness Challenge each spring that promotes healthy living in and out of the office. Partnered with the AHA, the Corporate Wellness Challenge tracks the steps of PBGH group members' employees through a simple, online, activity tracker. However, plugging in your activity is just the first step to success.

Did you vacumm today?

How about fold laundry?

Did you ride your bike to work?

How about cut the grass?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you could already be adding steps to your Corporate Wellness Challenge (CWC) activity tracker.

PBGH recognizes that health and wellness is not just for the marathon runners and extreme cyclists. Health and wellness is not just for those individuals who have an extra hour to go to the gym each day or those who have the extra funds to eat organic every meal. Health and wellness is about modiying your lifestyle through diet and exercise to take advantage of opportunities for healthy change.

In the PBGH CWC (that's a lot of acronyms!) the activity tracker takes into account activities and chores completed around the house. By typing in almost ANY movement and time duration, one can see how many miles their efforts are equivalent to moving. Think of it this way... walking or running one mile is about 100 calories. But we are not all runners. And we do not all have time to take a walk each and every day. However, vacuuming for one hour also burns 100 calories. So does twenty minutes of gardening.

You see, its not where you move, or how you move, but that you move. By entering the Corporate Wellness Challenge, individuals will be able to see their efforts in numbers, and we all know that positive reinforcement is great source of motivation. By making a few small changes to your diet and exercise routine, and by taking the time to track these changes, anyone can become stronger, healthier, and the CWC lead competitor, not to mention getting all of your chores done. :)
