Alternatively spelled Chanukah, it means “Festival of Lights” and celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem in the year 165 BCE. Hanukkah menorah: a nine-branched candlestick used only during the eight day celebration of Hanukkah. Shamash: the “helper” candle in the menorah, it is used to light all other candles. It is always set either higher or lower than the other candles. Prayer: Hebrew: Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech Ha-Olam, asher kiddeshanu b’mitzvotav, vitzivanu, lehadlik ner shel Hanukkah.
